Bruce Springsteen & Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone’s David Fricke recently gave Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming Devils & Dust CD a whopping 4.5 stars. Gasp. I have not heard the CD, but given what I’ve read about it this seems a bit generous. (Maybe they were just turned on by “Reno” in which the Boss explicitly recounts an encounter with a prostitute, thus earning himself a brand new “Adult Imagery” sticker.)

Fortunately, people are starting to get on Rolling Stone’s case about their celebrity / classic rock reviews. NYC blogger Coolfer rightly points out that “sometimes a Rolling Stone review of a big huge star’s album is a little hard to believe given some reviews they’ve had in the past.” He goes on to cite the hilarious 5-star reviews of Rolling Stones’ Steel Wheels and Mick Jaggers’ Goddess in the Doorway, both highly forgettable CDs. Is there no end to this sanity?
